Tires and rims
TIRES ARE IMPORTANT
Tires are essential because they’re the only components of your car in contact with the road. They play a major role in your vehicle’s handling, braking, speed and trajectory, as well as your comfort and safety.
Therefore, it’s crucial to take proper care of your tires and to have them checked regularly.
At Auto Mecano, we make sure your tires are in good condition every time you visit one of our repair shops. If needed, we’ll advise you on the right tires to suit your vehicle and driving style.

Taking care of your tires is a smart choice for your safety and your wallet.
Questions & answers
How do I check the pressure of my tires ?
The pressure of your tires is important, as it ensures proper traction and prevents premature wear of your tires.
Here are the steps to follow to check your tire pressure:
- Pressure should be checked when tires are “cold ” and when the vehicle has had little or no recent use.
- Check the recommended pressure for the front and rear tires. Typically, you can find this information either on the driver’s door, the fuel door or in the owner’s manual.
- Unscrew the cap that protects the valve.
- Attach the air pump nozzle to the valve, making sure there are no leaks.
- Check that the indicated pressure corresponds to the recommended pressure.
- Adjust as needed, then screw the valve cap back on.
You’re now ready for a safe drive!
Do I have to change my tires every season ?
In winter, it is mandatory to change to winter tires in Quebec from December 1 to March 15. However, it’s recommended that you switch to winter tires as soon as the temperature drops below 7°C and snow or icy conditions appear.
Although you’re not obliged to remove your winter tires in the summer, it’s important to be aware that the rubber on winter tires is specifically designed for winter conditions and doesn’t perform as well in warm temperatures. In fact, the heat of summer can quickly damage the rubber, which can cause your tire to blow out and you to lose control of the vehicle. Braking distance is also affected and increases significantly if you keep your winter tires on in the summer. It’s a question of your safety and that of others.
For these reasons, we strongly recommend that you switch from winter to summer tires in the summer.
And if you’re still not convinced, keep in mind that leaving your winter tires on in the summer doesn’t save you money, as your fuel consumption will increase and you’ll have to replace your winter tires sooner — usually after fewer than 10,000 kilometres. So what are you waiting for?
